How the Leaderboard is calculated

The leaderboard is calculated when the game week is closed. Here is how a gameweek is closed:

  1. Rugby matches in real life take place, players score tries and a team wins/loses.

  2. OPTA (current data provider) sends data to OVAL3. This happens both in real-time and after the final whistle. We pull data during the game to show any idea of how your NFTs are performing, but these scores are not finalized.

  3. OPTA keeps updating the game data over the next couple of days as they review the games. For example, low-value actions like tackles and ruck arrivals are calculated after the game, hence why the player’s scores change and update. The more games that are included in the game week the longer this may take and the more the data may change.

  4. The gameweek is β€œended” on Monday at 1 pm (this is due to change as we add more leagues and data feeds such as the MLR, to allow for more time for the data to come through). Leaderboard is not finalised at this point and the rewards are not yet sent. This step opens the next gameweek, so users can pick their team.

  5. The OVAL3 team now monitors the data from OPTA and once OPTA has finished any major updates, we sync all the fixtures in the gameweek as a final pull of game data, this will normally happen on a Wednesday.

  6. Following this, the OVAL3 team computes the gameweek to determine the final positions on the leaderboards for the various tournaments. Once this is set and reviewed, we send the rewards, we aim to do this on Wednesday. After the game week has been computed and the rewards have been sent, the game week is β€œclosed” and therefore over.

After this process is complete, the leaderboard is finalised and the rewards are sent. There is potential that the OPTA data can change, but we do not revisit this once the gameweek is computed, and therefore will not review the leaderboard positions after the gameweek is closed.
